The general manager of the ski center in SkiGeilo, Kevin Eikrehagen, is deeply affected by the skiing accident that led to the death of a man in his 70s on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, a man in his 70s was confirmed dead on the spot after an accident on a ski slope at Geilo.
Kevin Eikrehagen, general manager of the ski center SkiGeilo, describes the accident as very sad:
– You are very affected when something so serious happens. Such accidents are terribly sad anyway, he says to VG.
The accident was a collision between two skiers on one of the centre’s slopes. The other party – a young boy – was taken to the emergency room and then to hospital.
The police first received information about the accident at 2.30pm on Tuesday. The course of the incident is currently unknown and the police are appealing for more witnesses, writes Hallingdølen.
Praise the preparedness
– We sat and talked about the last time such a serious accident had happened at the ski center here. It was in the 80s, so fortunately it rarely happens, says Eikrehagen.
He highlights and praises the preparedness that was quickly in place and saw the seriousness of the situation.
– As a general manager, it is a great security to know that the right expertise is available quickly when there is a need, says Eikrehagen.
Those who were present during the accident later had a conversation where they went over the incident, he says:
– We got to talk about what had happened. On top of all this, it is the relatives we think about the most, says Eikrehagen.
– Shocking
Deputy mayor in Hol municipality, Hanne Birgitte Lindbak Haatuft, tells VG that such sudden deaths put a damper on smaller local communities.
– The death is sad and shocking for the entire local community, says the deputy mayor.
She also says that her thoughts go out to the relatives and those who have been involved in the accident.
– This is a sad day for reflection for many. Now we have to wait until we get more insight, and look after the relatives as best as possible, concludes the deputy mayor.
