More than a hundred people have returned to protest today for the road that will cross the parish of Beade and that is contemplated in the future Plan Xeral. The call of the association of affected AVIBE has been supported by the environmental groups Greenpeace, Ecologists in Action, Amigos da Terra and Adega. Another of the reasons for the concentration that has taken place in the Praza de América has been to protest the refusal of the municipal government to initiate the procedures for the Barxa and Eifonso rivers to be declared as Natural Area of Local Interest. The three opposition groups, PP, BNG and Marea, supported the proposal in plenary session, but the socialist municipal group imposed its majority and knocked it down. Those affected by the Beade road are struck by the fact that it was the Councilor for Urban Planning, Mara José Caride, the one that defended the government’s position, and not the one responsible for the Environment. They also consider the argument used to reject the proposal to be a joke. The government did not know if all the neighbors would agree, when none was asked if they agreed with the road project that would split the parish in two.
Those affected by Beade will continue with their demands. Next weekend they will celebrate the Geoloda, an event of the Spanish Society of Geology to draw attention to the damage of the hand of man in Nature. In Vigo they will celebrate it with a three hour walk to show the natural spaces that the high-capacity road projected in the new General Plan initially approved last year will cross.
