Most of the Lao players were reported to be positive for Covid-19 ahead of the match against Timor Leste.

The strength of the Laos U23 national team has decreased a lot when undergoing the previous match, namely the semifinal against Thailand, on Thursday (24/2/2022).

At that time, Laos only had 15 players. They then lost 0-2 to Thailand.

Regarding the situation that befell Laos ahead of the match for the third place in the 2022 AFF U23 Cup, Timor Leste manager Almerio Lopes gave an explanation.

Almerio Lopes said that the Laos national team now only has eight players who have tested negative for Covid-19 and are ready to compete against Timor Leste.

This condition, according to Almerio Lopes, makes it possible for Timor Leste to be declared victorious WO over Laos.

If this happens, Timor Leste will automatically take third place in the 2022 AFF U23 Cup event.

“As if it was not postponed, many Lao players have (positive) Covid-19,” said Almerio Lopes, quoted from BolaSport.comSaturday (26/2/2022).

“It looks like TL (Timor Leste) won WO. Of all the Lao players, only eight people were negative (Covid-19),” said Almerio Lopes.

Meanwhile, the Laos U23 national team has officially announced their withdrawal from the 2022 AFF U23 Cup.

This announcement was made via the official Instagram account of the Lao Football Association (LFF).
