AFCON U-23: arms in hand, Guinea eliminated by Egypt who are still in the final

TANGIER- Guinea will unfortunately not play its very first final of this CAN under 23 in Morocco. Facing the Egyptian defending champion, the Syli National hope was logically beaten (1-0) by the Pharaohs U-23. Egypt will therefore defend its title on July 8 in the final.

From the start of this semi-final, on a good offensive combination, Mohamed Mahmoud sent a crossed ball which easily deceived the Guinean goalkeeper in the eighth minute of play (1-0, 8th). The Guineans, difficult to recognize in the first minutes of this match, will run after the equalizer against a beautiful tactically disciplined team from Egypt. The minutes have passed but Guinea will not have managed to find the fault despite some chances obtained in particular this ball in the area badly taken over by Fodé Camara. The score was 1-0 for the Egyptians at the break.

On the return, the Guineans will regain control of the match without being decisive in front of the opposing goals. Fodé Camara’s cannon shot was overpowered by goalkeeper Hamza Hussein. Unsurprisingly, Egypt qualifies for the final of this fourth edition and will seek a new title on July 8 in the grand final. It will be either against Morocco or Mali who face each other at 9 p.m. in Rabat in the other semi-final.

For Guinea, which had the dream of lifting this trophy, it will have to be content with the third qualifying place for the next Olympic Games, during the small final scheduled for Friday, July 7 in Tangier.
