AFC Launches New Era in Asian Club Championships and Introduces AFC Women’s Champions League

The Executive Office of the Asian Football Confederation announced, on Monday, the entry of a new era in the Asian club championships, by revealing the names of the three new club championships, in addition to raising the value of the financial prizes offered to the 76 participating clubs, and launching the AFC Women’s Champions League.
This came during the second meeting held by the Executive Office, on Monday, via remote visual communication technology, chaired by Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, President of the Asian Football Confederation.
And the AFC stated on its website today that the three new initiatives come with the aim of taking Asian football to higher levels, promoting the growth of the game, and integrating more parties, and that the changes will be implemented from the 2025-2024 season.
Sheikh Salman stressed the Confederation’s commitment to providing a platform for club tournaments of higher commercial value for the member national federations, and to get closer to the enthusiastic fans in the Asian continent.
The top-level club tournament in Asia, which includes the best 24 clubs, will be called the “AFC Champions League Elite”, while the second-level tournament, which includes 32 clubs, will be called “AFC Champions League 2”, and the AFC Challenge Cup will be named The third level tournament, which includes 20 clubs.
On the other hand, the winning team of the AFC Champions League for the elite will receive a cash prize of 12 million dollars, a large difference from the four million dollars prize that the winner of the AFC Champions League 2024-2023 gets.
As for the losing team in the final of the new tournament, it will receive a cash prize of six million dollars, a difference of four million dollars from the prize of this year’s edition, which amounted to two million dollars.
The AFC Champions League 2 and the Asian Challenge Cup will see an increase in prize money and benefits.
