In this context, many bands are already preparing to tour again this northern hemisphere summer and fall, but some may have missed their last genuine chance to play for their legions of fans. Unfortunately, according to guitarist Brad Whitford, Aerosmith may be one of those bands. A longtime Aerosmith guitarist says the band is unlikely to tour again anytime soon.
In conversation with him podcast From Joe Bonamassa, Live from Nerdville, Brad Whitford spoke about the European tour that was scheduled for the band, saying, “They tried to plan one last year, and they’re talking about the next one. It’s a pipe dream right now. Nothing’s going to happen. for a long time. Sometimes I don’t know what my partners are thinking when they think this is going to happen. “
Difficulties in the future of Aerosmith
As things stood, 2020 was set to be a great year for Aerosmith. The band was scheduled to continue with a series of live performances called “Deuces Are Wild” in Las Vegas well into the latter part of the year. In addition, they were also scheduled to hold a massive show due to the 50th anniversary of their hometown, at Fenway Park in Boston.
Regarding the same, Whitford comments: “There is another interesting thing about going to Europe now because of Brexit: it is much more difficult to obtain work visas because of that. That will be another nightmare. I mean, I have my doubts that Aerosmith will actually perform again at this stage, because age is becoming a real factor. It is what it is”.
Notably, singer Steven Tyler is the oldest of the Aerosmith group at 73. All the other members of the group will be over 70 next February. Additionally, the band has also experienced a number of health setbacks in recent years.
Drummer Joey Kramer had a heart attack in 2014 and injured his shoulder in 2019. As a result, he sued Aerosmith to return to the band in early 2020 when they began performing without him due to his health. On the other hand, guitarist Joe Perry has had a couple of cases where he collapsed on stage and backstage. Eventually bassist Tom Hamilton battled throat and tongue cancer.
