Aerones Receives 4.6 Million Euro Grant for Development of Wind Turbine Blade Repair Robots

We have already written a lot about the Latvian startup “Aerones” and its success story in conquering the world market. In the middle of 2020, the company decided to significantly change its business direction, focusing more on the field of robotics. During this time, it has attracted tens of millions of dollars in several investment rounds. This year was no exception either, as Aerones received a 4.6 million euro grant from the European Union Innovation Fund for the development of robots.

Aerones operates in the field of wind turbine blade inspection and maintenance robotics. The company provides wind turbine inspections, cleaning services, anti-icing coatings and turbine blade erosion repairs in 27 countries.

The company stands out among others for having developed the world’s first wind turbine blade repair robot. The robotic technology created by Aerones allows these repairs to be performed up to six times faster than with conventional methods. The obtained funding will help the startup to scale the production of these robots.

Dainis Krüze, co-founder and executive director of Aerones, emphasizes that the repair of wind turbine blades is critically important for the efficiency and sustainability of wind energy production. With the support of the EU Innovation Fund, “Aerones” will be able to produce robots that allow erosion repairs of turbine blades to be carried out faster, more accurately and more efficiently than has been done so far.
