“Aerial Gymnast Dies in Performance Without Seat Belts: Industry Competitiveness & Risky Stunts to Blame?”

The decision to ditch seat belts comes from working in a highly competitive industry. Those who perform risky stunts earn much more.

In China, an aerial gymnast died while performing on the trapeze.

The incident took place on April 15 in the city of Suzhou in the central Anhui province.

About it informs BBC.

Video footage has surfaced on social media showing a gymnast falling on a hard stage during a performance.

Sun fell from a considerable height after her partner and man failed to catch her with their feet during a stunt.

The gymnast was taken to the hospital, but the doctors could not save her life.

Popular news site The Paper reported that the woman had two children.

Officials say an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

According to The Paper, the acrobats have worked together “for many years” and often performed without seat belts “for better effect”.

The video horrified people in China. While social media users acknowledge that acrobatics carries a high level of risk, some have raised concerns about the industry’s lack of security measures.

On the popular social network Weibo, commentators wrote that such performances often take place without a carpet or safety net and called for better regulation in the industry.

The local department of culture and tourism says that the corpse that prepared this trick did not receive special permission to carry it out. The department also said it would take “appropriate measures” against them.

The Paper shared archival footage of the couple, who often performed stunts at high altitude, relying only on each other’s strength.

The newspaper also notes that the decision to ditch seat belts is due to working in a highly competitive industry. Those who perform risky stunts earn much more.
