With a goal from their latest transfer acquisition Piero, AEK defeated the formidable Volos 2-0 in the 4th matchday of the Super League and caught Olympiacos and PAOK at the top of the standings.
There were many absenteeism problems for AEK. Garcia felt discomfort and it was decided to stay out at the last minute, so the newly acquired Piero made his debut. Vida, Mukudi, Lamela, Gacinovic, Odubajo were also absent for various reasons.
AEK were storming in the first 20 minutes and took the lead in the 22nd minute with Piero’s first league goal with a header from Rota’s cross. Volos then equalized and threatened with their top player Mendieta in the 40th minute.
The half-time ended in great tension from the Mitoglou-Altman and especially Myga-Pierros cockfights, which cost all four yellow cards as well as the expulsion of the AEK trainer.
In the second half, Volos missed a chance with Ferrari in the 48th minute and AEK scored a goal in the 54th minute with Callens but it was canceled by the VAR for offside. However, in the 61st minute, Koitas shot the ball against Kalogeropoulos, changed course and ended up in the net for the final 2-0. Conte missed a great opportunity to reduce the score in stoppage time.
