The derby of the 8th matchday of the Super League 1 between AEK and PAOK did not reveal a winner (1-1), however the Dikephalos of the North remained at the top, now having Ari as a roommate.
Matias Almeida lined up the Union with Levia Garcia and Franji Piero in the starting line-up, while Erik Lamela also returned to the eleven. Anthony Martial was on the AEK bench for the first time, while Eliasson felt unwell and was left out of the 20 for precautionary reasons. The same happened with Amrabad and Chumbar.
Dejan Lovren played alongside Kenziora in the center of PAOK’s defence, while Schwab was in Ozdoev’s side with Kamara on the bench. Chalov played at the top of the offense and was followed by Murg, Tyson and Zivkovic.
The derby was a football fan’s delight, as it had pace, intensity and many phases in front of the two home teams.
Crossbar and goal
In the 12th minute, Koita’s shot went wide, while in the 15th minute, PAOK had a crossbar after a shot by Ozdoev.
In the next phase, the guests opened the scoring. After a corner kick, Chalov took the header and Baba opened the scoring with a projection (0-1).
The Bigfoot of the North continued to push for the second goal and chances were missed by Ozdoev (18′) and Zifkovic (19′).
AEK responded and equalized in the 25th minute. Koita crossed to Piero, who beat Kenziora in a personal duel and executed Kotarski for 1-1.
In the 35th minute, Piero crossed, but Garcia’s header was off target. In the 38th minute, the Union missed a double chance with Rota and Pereira.
In the second half, the tempo of the match dropped and both teams played more conservatively.
In the 55th minute, Lamela committed a direct foul, without threatening.
In the 67th minute, Kotarski assisted Zifkovic, but his shot was blocked by Rota’s body.
Debut
In the 75th minute, Martial, who is the highest paid footballer in the league, entered the game, without making his presence felt.
In the 87th minute Odubajo tried his foot, but it was off target.
Slovenian Rade Obrenovic showed a yellow card to Lamela, Mukudi, Ozdoev.
