In a striking appearance during the Red Sea Film Festival in Jeddah, the young Saudi artist Adwaa Badr caught attention with her prominent presence and her clothes, which some considered controversial.
The festival witnessed the screening of her first film, “Nakala,” which was previously well received at the Toronto International Film Festival.
The film tells the story of Sarah, the character embodied by Adwaa Badr. She is a girl who sneaks out of her parents’ house to meet Saad (played by Yazid Al-Majoul), where things get complicated when she finds herself in a risky situation. Sarah will also face great difficulties and get stuck in the sand dunes in Riyadh. A direct confrontation with a raging camel.
It is worth noting that Adwaa Badr, who lives in Los Angeles, was chosen as one of the rising stars who will join a program for new acting talents from around the world, making her the first Saudi artist to join this program. Badr also has experience in writing poetry and screenplays. She also works as a model for several prestigious brands.
On the other hand, Adwaa Badr was subjected to a group of criticism, as one of them said in her comment, “She failed to achieve what she wanted in America, and she came to Saudi Arabia, may God guide her.” Another said, “After they had had enough of it in Los Angeles, it returned to Riyadh. Only the consumer and the loser will come to us.” Another said. “Praise be to God, I do not follow or care about such beings from whom society does not and will not benefit from anything..But all we say is praise be to God, who has spared us from what afflicted them with them, and there is no power or strength except in God.”
