Advisor: Dark Times Ahead for Lukashenko After Conflict in Ukraine Ends on Kyiv’s Terms

After the end of the conflict in Ukraine on Kyiv’s terms, “dark times” will begin for President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko. This was stated by Advisor to the Head of the Office of the Ukrainian President Mikhail Podolyak.

According to him, for Lukashenko, freezing the conflict “is a fundamental issue not even of political survival, but in the principle of survival.”

“Because as soon as the situation changes in the right direction, that is, the war ends fairly, Russia will undergo a mandatory transformation, this is important for European security as a whole. When we talk about the end of the war, we need to talk not about territories, but about the importance of transforming the political system in Russia… Of course, this will lead to a significant change in the situation in Belarus itself. And Lukashenko understands this very well,” he said.

Podolyak believes that “the only factor for Lukashenko’s survival is the preservation of the type of political structure that exists in Russia today, that is, Putin’s Russia.”

“As soon as the conflict is fairly concluded, dark times will come for Lukashenko. And so he is interested in three things. The first is so that Russia does not lose. Secondly, the conflict must be frozen, because then Russia will behave aggressively and Lukashenko will be able to support this aggressive rhetoric towards Poland, Lithuania, and any countries in the region. And the third component is that Lukashenko, as one of Russia’s closest allies, will receive dividends within the framework of Moscow’s expansionist foreign policy, that is, financing, the opportunity to modernize its armed forces and all the other goodies that an aggressive expansionist country always pays to a vassal,” he said.

At the same time, the adviser Vladimir Zelensky believes that there is no need to react to Lukashenko’s statements about the need to stop the conflict.

“He is not a subject not only of global politics, but of regional politics. It does not affect any processes – neither in the region, nor within the framework of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. And, in principle, it does not affect anything. Lukashenko is such a VIP propagandist of a very parochial level, and his statements are of no value.” – said Podolyak.

Let us remind you that Russia has been conducting a special military operation in Ukraine since February 24. Belarus does not officially participate in it, but supports Moscow’s actions. At the same time, Lukashenko has repeatedly suggested that Kyiv sit down at the negotiating table with the Russian side and end the conflict peacefully.
