The time interval between the second and third ‘booster shot’ of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines can be reduced to 4 months. That is what the Vaccination Task Force is recommending to the health ministers who are meeting on this issue this evening.

Given the situation, the task force recommends sending vaccination invitations four months after full primary vaccination with Pfizer or Moderna. The deadlines of two months for Johnson & Johnson and four months after the Astra Zeneca vaccine would remain unchanged.

On the Walloon side, it is now said that “we will follow the scientific advice”: that of the vaccination task force, but also that of the Superior Health Council and the EMA, the European Medicines Agency, all of which are in favor of shortening the deadlines in the light of of the rise of the omikron variant, says the cabinet of Walloon Minister of Health Christie Morreale.

The vaccination of children between the ages of 5 and 11, which was also the subject of an advice from the Superior Health Council, will not be discussed this Wednesday evening. It has been heard from good sources that this advice is particularly cautious due to the lack of a scientific basis at this stage to encourage vaccination except for the most vulnerable children. The choice to vaccinate would be left to parents and carers.
