Joan Laporta is promoting his candidacy as president of the Spanish top football club FC Barcelona in the home of the arch-rival.
The 58-year-old placed an oversized 20×50 meter election poster in the Spanish capital of Madrid – not even 200 meters away from the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, home of long-term rival Real Madrid.

With a big grin and the motto: “We look forward to seeing you again”, Laporta smiles at the Madridista from a house wall.
Former Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu resigned with the entire management team on October 27 after a power struggle with superstar Lionel Messi. Laporta is one of seven candidates in the presidential elections on January 24, 2021 and is next to businessman Victor Font as a favorite to succeed Bartomeus.
According to the association’s announcement, applicants can collect the signatures required for the candidacy between December 23 and January 11. The official election campaign will take place from January 15th to 22nd. Lawyer and politician Laporta had already led the Catalans as president from 2003 to 2010.
