It goes deep into the catacombs under Kara Castle in the game of the same name. In the course of the game, the two to five adventurers build the labyrinth through which they move, round by round, in the form of tiles that are placed on the table. So the dungeon, in which all kinds of dangers lurk, looks different in each game. Only one thing is always the same: the dangerous dragon that lurks somewhere. If you defeat him, you end the game – but you don’t necessarily win. The winner is the one who has collected the most treasures overall. Portals accelerate movement, healing springs help with injuries. They arise in combat with the various monsters, in which the dice are rolled. Various spells give additional strength, and whoever defeats a monster can conquer a key that helps to find treasure.
It’s going to be epic. Because with “Karak” the game publisher Kosmos is giving a foretaste of the big comeback of “HeroQuest” in the coming year (but with Hasbro). While the nineties cult game is aimed at older people, “Karak” can also be played by school beginners. However, the set of rules is quite extensive, whereby the moves themselves are not too difficult to understand. Above all, the instructions give an overview of the various monsters and their properties, as well as the six hero figures that the players can choose from. Each one has certain skills: the magician can go through walls, the warrior can strike particularly hard, the sorcerer can swap his position in the labyrinth with any other hero, the thief sneaks away if necessary, while all other heroes are forced to fight if they enter a room with a monster, the seer can always choose between two tiles when drawing, and the swordsman never misses his target.

One should always keep these peculiarities in mind when entering the dangerous catacombs of Karak – as well as the peculiarities of the various monsters that lurk there. But don’t worry, for a better understanding there is a short overview at the end of the instructions. And also a suggestion for an alternative goal for all those who, after playing several games, are of the opinion that they have already seen everything in the dungeon and are looking for new challenges.
