Würzburg.Due to the current pandemic situation and the framework provided by the Bavarian Infection Protection Measures Ordinance, the city of Würzburg has changed its planning for the Advent market this year, as stated in a press release from the city administration.
According to the new planning, which was presented to the members of the city council in the building and regulatory committee on Thursday, the planned alcohol-free Advent market will be reduced from 80 to 40 stalls.
From handicrafts to confectionery
Of these, the city allocates 36 stands, half of them to craft or handicraft businesses. A third of the stalls will carry everyday goods, while only ten percent will be allowed to be snack or confectionery stalls, which will only sell “to go” and cannot offer anything for consumption on the spot.
The Bavarian State Association of Market Merchants decides on the occupancy of four additional stands on a weekly or two-weekly basis.
These four stalls of the regional association can then continue to be operated after the Christmas market until February, so that as many market merchants as possible have an opportunity to sell their goods.
The artist’s Christmas market, which was planned on Saturdays and Sundays in the entrance area of the town hall and in the Behr-Halle, and also the children’s rides, however, will have to be omitted, as will the planned “Würzburg Winter Forest” on Paradeplatz with its gastronomic offerings.
According to the Infection Protection Measures Ordinance, the “winter forest” would be an entertainment event that is currently not permitted, according to the city administration. pm
