On November 30, the Cuban Bishops’ Conference published a pastoral letter for Advent, inviting believers to renew themselves, purify their hearts and work together to build a more humane and fraternal country during Advent, a time full of grace.
(Vatican News Network)In this Advent, a time of grace, “God reveals himself in a way that brings us closer” and “invites us to grow, to renew ourselves, to purify our souls, to become more human and fraternal”. This is what the Cuban bishops expressed in their pastoral letter for Advent of November 30th.
In this pastoral letter, the country’s bishops first of all reflect on the reality of the country: an atmosphere of “fear, distrust, monotony, lies and hatred” prevails in the country. The Cuban priest invites hope in this “time of grace”, “in such a dark and depressing environment”. The pastoral letter reads: “Our greeting goes to the families suffering from immigration, who are particularly in need of the light of the poor and humble birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. encouragement. This reassures us that in Jesus all roads converge and all gaps are closed”.
Then, we read in the pastoral letter, “At Christmas, God is with man. God became man so that man may come to God. He enters our heart, enters human history, and changes it from the outside. inside”. Jesus “stands before our reality with compassion” and “comes to heal our wounds, to give us comfort and hope”. He “never abandons us and invites us not to abandon our neediest brothers and sisters, and those who suffer from hunger, loneliness, lack of freedom. They expect an act of warmth or mercy from us.”
“It is a joy for their families and for the people to know that this Christmas many prisoners were released and returned to their homes to reintegrate into normal life and start a new year”, say the bishops. Christmas “brings out the best in everyone, awakens love for life, for the family, creates a climate of peace. Everything invites us to meet God and our brothers and sisters, and to realize that we will never be alone”.
The bishops underlined in the pastoral letter: “This Christmas we rediscover the dream of building a fraternal country. In a country like this everyone can live with dignity, we listen and talk to each other, and we make decisions for the future. , we fight for the common good of all”.
Finally, the pastoral letter quotes the words of the prophet Isaiah: “The people who walked in darkness saw a light” (Isaiah 9:1). where there is fear, where there is none where there is trust, equality, lies and hate, let Christ bring courage, hope, passion, truth and forgiveness.”
