Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Bek Venezuela Luis Adrian Martinez in the spotlight after a brutal tackle on the Argentina captain Lionel Messi in the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers. The following is Adrian Martinez’s profile.
Martinez got a straight red card in the 32nd minute when Venezuela lost 1-3 to Argentina in Caracas, Friday (3/9) morning WIB. In replays, the 28-year-old defender made a brutal tackle on Messi in the fight for the ball.
Martinez hit Messi’s left leg below the knee. In a video that went viral on social media, Messi’s left ankle was also in a bad position after being tackled.
Messi is considered lucky not to have suffered severe injuries, ranging from fractures to broken legs. If Messi continues to immediately lift his left foot after being tackled by Martinez, it is not impossible that the PSG player will experience a broken leg.
Martinez’s actions against Messi made the Argentine public angry. Some Argentine media consider Martinez’s tackle on Messi as a crime and he deserves to be jailed.
Luckily for the Argentine national team, the captain was able to finish the match against Venezuela until the match was over.
Martinez is a central defender who strengthens Venezuelan club, Deportivo La Guaira. Born in San Felix, Venezuela, July 14, 1993, Martinez started his professional career in 2015 and has spent his career in the Venezuelan League to date.
Martinez’s career in international football is fairly late. Martinez was only called up to strengthen Venezuela when he appeared in the 2021 Copa America, last June. The match against Argentina this morning was Martinez’s fourth cap with the Venezuelan national team.
Quoted from Clarin, Martinez has a pretty bad record as a central defender. Martinez previously collected six red cards in his last 80 games at club level. Last season Martinez got two red cards for bad fouls with La Guaira in the Venezuelan League.
But off the pitch Martinez is known as a good player and never intimidates people.
