Adriaan Van den Hoof cancels theater show after reports of inappropriate behavior: “Too much commotion”

After several women accused Adriaan Van den Hoof (49) of inappropriate behaviour, the presenter and comedian decided to cancel his Wednesday evening theater performance. “There is too much commotion for the show to continue in a serene atmosphere,” it sounds.

A few weeks before he was replaced as presenter of the One quiz Switch VRT’s prevention service received several reports about inappropriate behavior from Adriaan Van den Hoof. This would include physical aggression. The police also received four complaints against the presenter in the past, although those investigations are no longer ongoing.

After the allegations leaked out last week, according to Van den Hoof, there was little going on. “I have no reason to believe that there are (at his replacement in ‘Switch’, ed.) something different than VRT’s choice for innovation. No formal complaints have ever been filed against me. There is no ongoing judicial investigation.”

Move or delete?

However, the turmoil does not seem to be without consequences. The performance of Van den Hoof’s theater show It’ll be clean when it’s done is in Koksijde, on May 25, is cancelled.

“It seemed as if the performance could go on, but on Monday in the late afternoon we received a phone call that we would rather not receive,” says the CasinoKoksijde cultural center. “At the moment there is a bit too much commotion around the person of Adriaan to allow the performance to continue in a serene atmosphere.”

It is not certain whether the show will be moved or canceled permanently. It remains to be seen whether the rest of the theater tour will also be cancelled. According to Van den Hoof’s calendar, his next performance is not planned until the end of September. There are five more shows in October and November.

In his short response, Van den Hoof announced last week that he will meet with the VRT after the summer to look at new projects. “I don’t think that’s a bad sign.” Earlier it was also said that the VRT will broadcast the recording of its theater show. It is currently unclear whether this is still the case.(dvg, thv)
