It is therefore not about the German leader who rose from the dead, but for the Namibian politician Adolf Hitler Uunona.
His father thought Adolf Hitler sounded good, so he gave these first names to his son.
‘Daddy didn’t know him well’
Adolf Hitler Uunona was elected with 85 percent of the vote to represent the SWAPO party in Ompundja, in the north of the African country. It came to power after the end of apartheid in South Africa and has since been the largest party in Namibia.
The politician distances himself in conversation with BILD from the German Hitler.
He also defends his father. “He named me after Hitler, but probably didn’t know exactly who that was,” claims junior. “And as a child it was a normal name for me. It was only as a teenager that I began to understand that this man wanted to conquer the whole world. ” Uunona does not speak about the Holocaust.
World dominance
Neighboring countries can breathe a sigh of relief: Adolf Hitler Uunona is not going to be Namibian habitat expand. “I’m not aiming for world domination.”
Namibia was a German colony from 1884 to the end of the Second World War. In the country street names and some cities still have German names. Inhabitants of the country had to do forced labor for a long time and an uprising was bloodily suppressed by the Germans in the early 20th century. To this day the relationship between Namibia and Germany is difficult.
