Adolescents thought they rescued puppy

The Swedish magazine Swedish Hunting reports that a group of young people from a residence for people with disabilities may have committed an environmental crime by mistake.

The young people are said to have been on a forest walk near Lesjöfors in Värmland when they found what they thought was a puppy. The walkers took the puppy back to the residence, where it gradually became clear that there were hardly any dogs the young people found in the forest.

According to Swedish Hunting, it was probably a wolf cub that the young people took home from the forest.

– It is the police who have all the information, but yes, it seems that it is a wolf cub that has been found, says Maria Falkevik, predator responsible in Värmland to the magazine.

Since wolves are considered the state’s game, it was considered whether to investigate the incident as an environmental crime, but according to the police, it is not being investigated as something criminal at present.

– It has been established that there is no suspicion that this was a criminal act, and that there has been no criminal intention behind the act, the police say to Göteborgs-Posten.

According to the newspaper, the wolf cub has now been killed.

– It was in all probability a wolf, but it can be difficult to visually determine if it is a wolf, as certain dogs are extremely similar to wolves when they are completely newborn, says Lars Hedelin in the police.
