ROMA – Here is an example of how a film can play a supportive role in representing human conditions at the limit and thus become a strong reminder to institutions and everyone’s consciences. It will be released in theaters on November 7th Out of Schoolthe first film by a teacher-director – Mario Spinocchio – produced by Inthelfilm together with Today Entertainment and Vinians.
The story. The story follows Mattia, an eighteen-year-old just out of reform school, who finds himself in the principal’s office of the school he attends with his mother Gabriella. Caught red-handed with a large quantity of drugs which he also dealt inside the institute. Mattia, therefore, seems destined for a marked future. However, the principal, moved by feelings of solidarity towards Gabriella, an honest woman who desperately tries to save her son, uses his knowledge to prevent Mattia from having legal consequences. He thus manages to obtain an alternative sentence: Mattia will have to carry out social services, cleaning both in his school and in an oncology hospital, where the patients are children of his age who are fighting cancer.
The meeting with Alessia, terminally ill. In the hospital, Mattia meets Alessia, a terminally ill girl, with whom he will discover love for the first time. But his criminal past doesn’t leave him alone: together with his friend Francesco, with whom he shares shady deals, he finds himself in trouble again. The boss, from whom Mattia got the drugs, wants back the money that was stolen from him with the confiscation of the goods. Panicked, the two friends desperately search for a solution to repay the debt.
The atmospheres of the Roman suburbs. The story takes place in a school on the outskirts of Rome, where many students, without a solid family behind them, survive with small expedients. To make money, they get into trafficking bigger than themselves, serving local gangs who use them for drug dealing and prostitution. The street thus becomes their school of life, a cruel teacher who seduces them with easy profits, but who often deceives them and drags them towards a spiral of destruction.
Inspiration from real and lived events. Director Mario Spinocchio, a teacher in a Roman school for twenty years, was inspired by real events observed during his career. Through his film, Spinocchio intends to represent the fight for the redemption of “borderline” kids and the fundamental role of institutions and society in reintegrating them, working on their self-esteem.
He cast. It features performers such as Antonella Ponziani, Alessandro Haber, Salvo Saverio D’Angelo, Livia Cascarano, Lorenzo Piazzoni, Francesca Rettondini, Rosario Petix and for the first time on screen Celeste Haber. The soundtrack is signed by Matteo Minchillo and Simone Carbone.
