Adobe has released an update to Photoshop 25.0, a new beta version of its software that now includes a tool for generative scene filling. The option is called Generative Expand, or a generative extension that allows you to expand the image frames using artificial intelligence.
In addition, Adobe has launched a stable version of Photoshop 24.7, which fixes some bugs.
The process of integrating AI tools into Adobe programs began back in May when the team brought Firefly into Photoshop. This is part of a larger initiative to bring AI into existing creative workflows across Creative Cloud, Document Cloud, Experience Cloud, and Adobe Express.
Through the use of Firefly, Adobe has added a Generative Fill feature to Photoshop, allowing users to fill in images and add and remove objects with simple text directions. This feature quickly became a popular trend, spawning a lot of experimentation.
The tool’s latest update and its new feature, Generative Expand, is similar to Generative Fill. This feature, unlike replacing a specific part of an image, expands the boundaries of an existing image.
You can use the existing Crop tool to expand the image and then enter a textual description of the desired background. The AI part of the image is generated on a new layer.
Photoshop 25.0 is currently only available in beta and can be installed via Adobe Creative Cloud.
