The American software company, “Adobe”, said in a statement early Sunday that the company’s founding partner, John Warnock, died on Saturday at the age of 82.
The cause of Warnock’s death has not been announced.
“It is a sad day for the Adobe family and the entire industry as it has been an inspiration for decades,” Adobe Chief Executive Officer Shantanu Narain said in an email to company employees.
Warnock co-founded Adobe with Charles Geschke in 1982, stepped down as CEO in 2000, and remained chairman of the company’s board of directors, a position he shared with Geschke, until 2017.
Prior to founding Adobe, Warnock was a principal scientist at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center and held positions at Evans & Sutherland Computer and Computer Sciences Corp. and IBM and the University of Utah, according to the company bio.
Warnock has a PhD in Electrical Engineering, a Masters in Mathematics, and a BA in Mathematics and Philosophy, all from the University of Utah.
