ADO Den Haag will retain head coach Dirk Kuijt for the time being, says general manager Edwin Reijntjes. Kuijt’s position is under scrutiny due to the poor results of the current number sixteen in the Kitchen Champion Division.
ADO have won just five times in fifteen league matches. Kuijt’s team have taken two points from their last four games. The ADO has one point more than the number nineteen Helmond Sport. Ahead of the season, the club from The Hague expressed ambitions to promote.
Despite the disappointing results, Reijntjes maintains faith in Kuijt. “We stick to our policy,” says the director Transmission in the West. “A professional like Kuijt fits our vision. It seems clear to us that something needs to be done in the staff. We are simply not looking for a panic solution.”
Reijntjes refers to the appointment of a new assistant. The group of players would like Jong ADO coach Giovanni Franken to join the coaching staff. “Franken needs to continue his good work at Jong ADO and get his coaching diplomas,” says Reijntjes. “So there’s no workaround there.”
Reijntjes: ‘Some friction is part of it every now and then’
The director acknowledges that Kuijt’s arrival has caused many changes at ADO. “Obviously it took a while to get used to the new structures and professionalisation implemented at the start of the season with the arrival of Kuijt. This sometimes causes some friction, but that’s part of the problem.”
ADO recently announced that Daryl Janmaat is already after five months leaves as technical manager. The former international would not feel listened to and would not agree with the choices made within the club of the real city.
Besides Kuijt, ADO supporters are also critical of Reijntjes’ performance. “I don’t think the team will play better if there is a new manager,” replies the director.
“The ball is in the field of the staff and the players. The truth is told to each other and agreements are made that must be respected. If not, it has consequences. If there are forces that do not want to cooperate, then something must be done about it” .
