The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) reported that vaccinations have been enabled in all departments of the country since Monday so that people over the age of 80 and people with comorbidities can receive the fifth dose of the covid-19 vaccine .
So far it has been enabled in Montevideo but since Monday the booster injection has also begun to be administered in several cities in the rest of the territory, according to a statement from the portfolio. The list of available vaccinations can be consulted at this link.
The MSP decided in late December to bring forward the fifth booster dose after noting an increase in covid-19 cases.
Vaccination is without an agenda, but the authorities have decided to stagger the administration to prioritize different population groups. Thus, on Monday 26, Montevideo began administering the vaccine to the over-80s and immunocompromised of Montevideo.
In all cases, people must wait 180 days after receiving the last dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, or as many days after contracting the disease.
Public Health Minister Daniel Salinas said on Dec. 22 that authorities expected a “significant” increase in covid-19 cases for the summer season, according to statements released in Telemundo from Channel 12.
