Slavia football players drew 2:2 with Sigma Olomouc in the penultimate round of FORTUNA:LIGA at their home stadium. The loss of the “stitched” means that the football players of Sparta will surely win the basic part of the league. When Pavel Zifčák punished a crazy mistake made by David Zima, Sigma already led by two goals in Eden. However, the home team pushed the opponent in the end. However, the goals of Jan Bořil and Mojmír Chytil, whose goal was scored after a probably tight offside situation, were not enough for the win.
Sigma took a sensational 2-0 lead in Eden in the 66th minute after goals from Jakub Pokorný and Pavel Zifčák, the big favorite only managed to equalize thanks to goals from Jan Bořil and Mojmír Chytil. After the defeat in the last round 0:1 in Pilsen, Sláviste lost points for the second time in a row, which happened to them only for the second time in the league season. Sparta, thanks to the first part in the regular season, will have the advantage of the home environment in the superstructure during the derby.
Slavia’s coach Jindřich Trpišovský did not reach the 192nd victory in the history of the independent top competition even on the second attempt, which would have surpassed the record holder Pavel Vrba. Sigma followed up on the previous victory over Jablonec and, in eighth place, holds out hope for the elite six and superstructure group for the title.
Coach Trpišovský made four changes in the starting line-up compared to the last match in Pilsen. The recovered Douděra returned to the defense with captain Bořil, Zafeiris and Jurásek got a chance from the start in the midfield. While the home team was almost empty, Sigma was missing nine players for various reasons. In the starting eleven, three youngsters also jumped in, only the offensive mainstays Juliš and Vodháněl sat on the bench surprisingly in the beginning.
The Red and Whites entered the match with a powerful onslaught and had four great chances in just the opening 20 minutes. In the eighth minute, goalkeeper Stoppen blocked a shot from one of the two leaders of the Jurečka competition table. Less than two minutes later, Jurásek hit the bar from the right side and Chytil sent a volley just wide in a difficult position.
The former striker from Olomouc continued to be active. In the 15th minute, Chytil narrowly missed from behind the penalty area, and a moment later missed goalkeeper Stoppen. After half an hour of play, the ball bounced from the Olomouc players to a free Jureček, but the national team forward kicked high and missed his 16th goal in the league season.
The Hanáci did not shoot for the entire first half, but in the 52nd minute they shocked a packed Eden with their first attempt. Pospíšil crossed from a free kick, and the onrushing Pokorný placed the ball against the post in a slide. The 27-year-old stopper scored for the first time since November, when he also scored against Slavia in a 1:3 home loss.
Slavist coach Trpišovský immediately reacted with a triple substitution and sent fresh Ševčík, Provod and Schranz onto the field. Oscar could have equalized in the 59th minute, but he couldn’t get a dropped cross between the posts at the edge of the small goal area.
In the 66th minute, Sigma Eden was silenced for the second time. Stopper Zima, in the role of the last player, fell and thus offered a separate escape to Zifčák, who easily punched the ball over the goalkeeper Staňko. The 25-year-old forward scored in the league for the first time since the end of last season and the 2:3 defeat against Slavia. The Red and Whites also conceded from Hanák’s second shot in the match, and up until today they had the best defense in the competition with 20 goals conceded.
The home team were visibly taken aback and only captain Bořil spoke to them, who in the 77th minute pounced on substitute Van Buren’s cross from the right side and unusually lowered it with his head. The 33-year-old back scored in the league for the first time since December.
The celebrants came alive and equalized in the next seven minutes. Schranz’s cross from the left side was pushed into the Chytil net from close range and he scored his 13th goal in the league season. Out of respect for his former club, he did not celebrate the goal. The situation was very likely preceded by a close offside by home team Bořil, but referee Radina, after consulting with the video referee, sanctioned the equaliser. VAR probably didn’t find a completely convincing offside shot…
The people of Prague pushed for the winning goal, but they could not turn the situation around. Provod’s shot was deflected by Stoppen, and in Ševčík’s set-up, he headed just above Pokorný. Slavia lost points against Olomouc at home in the league after six wins in a row, they did not win at their stadium in the top competition for the first time after seven duels.
