In the 3rd round of the Chance League, Slavia won 1:0 in Liberec. In the top competition, the Prague team won for the second time in a row and remain undefeated in the season, moreover, they are the only team that has not conceded yet. The balanced match in front of nine thousand spectators was decided in the 39th minute by the Senegalese defender El Hadji Malick Diouf.
Slavia got into a winning mood for Wednesday’s entry into the Champions League qualification and the opening home duel of the 3rd preliminary round against the Belgian Saint-Gilloise, due to which they played the match in Liberec today. The Red and Whites confirmed that they are doing well against Slovan, scoring 15 points out of the last 16 matches in the top flight. The North Bohemians lost for the first time in the new season.
Coach Trpišovský, who came to Slavia in the middle of the 2017/18 season from Liberec, made two changes to the starting line-up compared to the winning match with České Budějovice (4:0). On the right side, instead of Douděra, Masopust stepped in, Chorý got a chance from the beginning in the attack for the first time after his summer transfer from Pilsen. Liberec coach Kováč also made two changes compared to the last game, instead of Plechatý and Koželuh, Preisler and Kayondo were in the starting eleven.
FIRST IMPRESSION: The roles of Liberec and Slavia have been reversed. Kinski’s self-confidence, not used to the Sick
The North Bohemians played unexpectedly evenly with the favorites throughout the first half and even threatened more in the beginning. In the tenth minute, after a break from the right side, Nyarko advanced alone to the home goal, but he did not follow up on the hit from the previous round against Olomouc and only let goalkeeper Kinski stand out, who did not concede even in the third game of the league season.
The people of Prague threatened more significantly only after 27 minutes. Provod tried to get around Bačkovski in the box, but the home goalkeeper caught his attempt at a loop. In the 38th minute, the goalkeeper from Liberec took a shot from former teammate Prebsl for a corner, and after that the guests struck.
Diouf leaned into the bounced ball behind the goal and opened the scoring with a good shot with the help of the crossbar. The 19-year-old Senegalese back scored for the second time in the ninth match of the Czech league. On the opposite side, Icha, the former star player, could have answered, but Kinský’s long-range attempt went over the crossbar.
Slovan was unable to equalize even in the 53rd minute, when Ševínský headed wide from a corner after a missed long drive. After the change of sides, the North Bohemians did not threaten as much and the Praguers kept their lead, even though they had a very unusually significantly lower percentage of ball possession than the opponent.
In the end, the home team did not get a chance to score, the active Ševínský headed inaccurately in a good position in the 85th minute. Slovan did not win at home in the league for the fourth time in a row. Slavia, on the other hand, scored 10 points out of the last 11 matches in the top competition at Nisa.
