Adele understands criticism of African buns: ‘Karma had me’ | Stars

entertainment">In the now much-discussed Instagram photo, Adele had her hair twisted into a dozen so-called bandoe buns, a hairstyle originally worn by peoples in central and southern Africa. And although the British superstar received a lot of positive reactions, there were followers who did not thank her. They accused Adele of ‘cultural appropriation’, whereby someone who is not part of a particular culture allows himself to be measured for elements of it.

I understand that, but if I had, it would have been as if it hadn’t happened,” she says now. “I just wasn’t aware of it enough at the time,” she says. Afterwards, ‘karma’ had a lot to do with the 33-year-old singer, she says. “It was a haircut that was actually meant to protect afro hair, but I just ruined mine with it.”
