Angelina Jolie has admitted that putting so much into her work sometimes makes her feel lonely.
The 49-year-old actress plays opera singer Maria Callas in the biopic “Maria” and she sees big similarities between them, including their dedication to their careers.
She told People magazine: “I don’t want to talk too much about it because it’s too personal, but we absolutely share a certain loneliness and a similar work ethic. I may be many things, but I’m a hard worker, right? I am an imperfect person, but I work very hard, just like her.”
Angelina – who has six children with ex-husband Brad Pitt – has admitted in the past that training her voice for the film felt like therapy.
She told WSJ magazine: “Pablo (Larraín, the director, editor’s note) expected me to learn, to really sing… to understand and study opera, to immerse myself completely and to do the necessary work. But it was much more than that, it was about understanding Maria Callas and being able to interpret her character. I had no idea how much I was holding in and not letting out. So the challenge wasn’t technical, it was an emotional experience of finding my voice, of being in my body, of expressing myself. You have to give every part of yourself… everything you want.”
