Adelante demands that the rights of cross-border workers be preserved in negotiations on Gibraltar

SEVILLA 9 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Mixed Group-Adelante Andalucía has demanded this Wednesday that the preservation of the rights of the citizens of Campo de Gibraltar, in the province of Cádiz, who work in the Rock is a fundamental issue in the negotiations on the status of the British colony after Brexit.

At a press conference, the spokesperson for Grupo Mixto-Adelante Andalucía in Parliament, José Ignacio García, trusted that in the meeting held this Wednesday in Madrid by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, with Board and mayors of Campo de Gibraltar do not talk about “flags”, but about the situation of these cross-border workers.

He has stated that, throughout this negotiation process, which is “very delicate”, we must count on the civil society of Campo de Gibraltar, such as the local federation of neighborhood associations of La Línea de la Concepción and unions, which They are really concerned “about issues that are not about the flag, but about eating every day.”

Likewise, he has pointed out that “any solution that involves closing the border for workers who come to work in Gibraltar, to earn a living every day,” cannot be accepted.

According to García, there cannot be “a loss of rights” of these workers in relation to pensions or Social Security contributions, because now they are seeing how those rights are “attacked.”

“I hope that today we will not only talk about flags and talk about things like eating and the workers of Campo de Gibraltar,” he stressed.
