The night was the Champions League, but there was a well-known Portuguese football player shining on the other side of the world: Adel Taarabt.
A starter in the reception of Al Nasr (as well as the Portuguese Tozé) to Al-Ahli Dubai, in a game of the championship of the United Arab Emirates, the former Benfica midfielder made it 2-2 for his team in the 89th minute: Taarabt killed with chest in the area and acrobatically shot for the tie, applying for the Puskas award.
Decisive goal, the Moroccan international took off his jersey during the celebrations and saw, naturally, the yellow card. The referee resumed the match and right after, in a matter of seconds, Taarabt came in harder on an opponent. Result? Expulsion.
The match ended up 2-2, and on the other side, Al-Ahli is coached by Leonardo Jardim.
Adel Taarabt, it should be noted, was linked to Benfica from 2015 to 2022 (with two loans from Genoa in between), a period in which he made 129 appearances for the eagles and scored two goals. Recently, the 33-year-old player praised the club in an interview.
