Jakarta –
social media activist, Ade Armando, became the butt of the masses in the midst of a demonstration by the All-Indonesian Student Executive Board (BEM SI). Ade Armando was bullied, beaten and even humiliated by the masses who took off his pants.
Luckily, Ade Armando was rescued by the security guard at the location, in front of the DPR RI Building, Senayan, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta (Jakpus). Although, Ade Armando’s condition is already battered.
“Ade Armando’s condition is quite alarming,” said Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Fadil Imran after the April 11 demonstration broke up, at the Indonesian Parliament building, Monday (11/4/2022).
In fact, Ade Armando joining the crowd of demonstrators just wanted to monitor the action of BEM SI. Although he did not give speeches or shout aspirations, this University of Indonesia (UI) lecturer supported the voices of students who rejected the discourse of postponing the election and extending the presidential term.
“I did not participate in the demonstration. I monitor it and want to say I support it,” he told reporters at the location, Monday (11/4) afternoon, before the incident took place.
Ade Armando is seen wearing a black T-shirt with the words ‘Indonesian Movement for All’ written on it. There are a number of photos circulating on social media timelines showing Ade Armando’s presence before the incident, as well as videos of Ade Armando before and after being beaten by the masses.
“When there was resistance by the non-student mass group, I and the Pangdam Jaya and troops from the Polda and Polda Metro Jaya went down directly to restore the situation,” said Fadil Imran, who emphasized that the rioters in yesterday’s demonstration were not students.
In line with Fadil, BEM Media Coordinator SI Luthfi denied that his party had tarnished peaceful demonstrations with violence. BEM SI confirmed that another group had infiltrated their action, and caused a commotion after they finished their hearing in the DPR RI Building.
“The riots were not brought by us from BEM SI, our action was peaceful and our aspirations were well conveyed. After we disbanded, provocateurs and intruders began to arrive,” said Luthfi.
In yesterday afternoon’s incident, not only Ade Armando who are victims. Six police officers were also injured.
