– I think no one can now take a position where you reject proposals – and good proposals, said city council leader Raymond Johansen (Ap) and held out a hand to his challenger Eirik Lae Solberg from the Conservative Party.
Then Lae Solberg, who is now leading the opinion polls, had come up with a number of proposals for the Conservative Party to reduce youth crime:
– We want more schools open in the evening, a free time guarantee, dropout program for gang criminals where they are followed up closely at school, in their free time and at home. And we want child protection to make greater use of the opportunity to lock up serious criminals. But then what happens behind closed doors is important!

Large increase in youth crime
Dagbladet was able to report earlier in August that there has been a 40 percent increase in youth crime in Oslo since before the pandemic. It was also the subject of NRK’s metropolitan duel between Johansen and Lae Solberg.
Johansen did not reject Høyre’s proposal, but emphasized that the most important thing is to ensure good conditions for growing up, get more people into kindergarten, fewer people who do not know Norwegian when they start school and increased resources in the course of education.
– Now we must not demonize. The violence was greater 20 years ago. It is a meager consolation, but we have to work with what works. We have established 4,000 summer jobs through the municipality. The police themselves say that it works by reducing crime in those areas. And it gives people hope for the future, Johansen said.
Right: Stricter requirements for parents
Eirik Lae Solberg pointed out that in certain areas of Oslo, 40 percent now feel that it is not safe in the evening, according to Oslo’s own citizen survey.
– We believe we can make stricter demands on parents and require them to stand up to a far greater extent. We also want a fast-track court, some are now waiting six months to get a verdict, said Lae Solberg, but was interrupted by a smiling Raymond Johansen.
– It is neither my nor your responsibility – it is the government and Storting!
– Yes, but the Labor Party can do it in government, said Lae Solberg.
– Yes, and Erna Solberg ruled for eight years, said Raymond.
