Addressing Violence and Politics: A Discussion with PP-DB MP Hristo Petrov

The Home Secretary should have first congratulated all the police officers who did their job at the BFS protest and then strongly condemned the sadists who took pleasure in inflicting violence on innocent people. PP-DB MP Hristo Petrov – Itso Hazarda stated this in “Panorama”.

“I, like the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, receive a salary from the state. Imagine how a person stands in front of me who does not provoke me, does not attack me, and I knock out three of his teeth or grab a girl and kick him in the stomach. The right thing to do is to be arrested, investigated, tried. It is not right for Prime Minister Denkov to come out and say: “That Itso works in a tense environment and he has had more adrenaline”. This happened with the attitude of Minister Stoyanov towards the people, which we also saw from the clips, and from the investigations”.

Nobody would have discussed why the minister was at the cinema if the protest had passed without violence against innocent people, Petrov said.

One must be in the parliament with the attitude that one will have to comply and find a way to do useful things, commented the deputy.

“When you enter politics, failure is inevitable in many places and it is one hundred percent certain that you will not be a hero. Whoever has decided to be a hero is certainly not fooled by the thought of being part of politics.”

Petrov does not think that Delyan Peevski is giving orders to the rulers:

“Just because someone reports something they’ve been told is going to be done doesn’t make them boss of anyone. I’ve had many conversations with people about this because they’re upset and asking me. The conversation ends with me asking: what did we vote for , what this person ordered or made us? My interlocutor falls silent at this point”.

Hristo Petrov defined yesterday as one of his best days as a deputy, because after three years of work, changes to the Copyright Act were adopted.

“This is an unattractive and incomprehensible law for a large part of society, but it solves huge problems for artists, performers, authors, producers. The delay of this law for the last three years led to Bulgaria paying more than BGN 10 million in fines due to criminal proceedings. A lot of work in a matter, incomprehensible even to most lawyers, led to the fact that things that have been a problem for artists for years were solved”.
