Addressing the Labor Shortage: UWV Analyzes 166 Professions with High Demand

The tightness in the labor market is unprecedented. Our country currently has 166 professions with a labor shortage, according to an analysis by the UWV benefits agency.

For 70 percent of the professions where there is a shortage of people, there is still staff available in another European country. The UWV therefore advises companies to look for new professionals within the European Union.

For example, retail employers seeking salespeople could recruit from Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Portugal, Sweden, Cyprus, Hungary, Luxembourg and Slovakia. There is currently a surplus of people in this profession in those countries.

Companies looking for construction workers can go to Denmark, Greece, Germany, Latvia, Norway, Sweden and Slovakia. There are relatively many people in those countries who used to work in construction, but are currently unemployed.
