SinPo.id – The Provincial Government of DKI (Pemprov) officially launched a program to control Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DBD) by Aedes aegypti mosquito carrying Wolbachia in West Jakarta (Jakbar), on Friday, 5 October 2024.
The Mayor of West Jakarta, Uus Kuswanto, said that the series of dengue fever control using the Wolbachia method in West Jakarta had started since the area was named as one of the places to implement the program. .
“The series of readiness to implement dengue fever prevention activities using the Wolbachia method in West Jakarta has started since this area was designated as one of the places to implement the program,” Uus told journalists, Friday, October 4 2024.
“And based on the Order of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia No. 1341 regarding the implementation of the Wolbachia implementation project as an innovation to control dengue fever,” he continued.
According to him, West Jakarta was chosen as one of five selected cities besides Semarang, Bandung, Kupang and Bontang in the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) program.
To support the smooth running of the program, Uus said, the West Jakarta City Government has trained larval inspectors (Jumatic) so they can help residents understand the program.
“Socialization and education has been done extensively throughout the West Jakarta area using various methods, including face-to-face, social media, webinars, handing out leaflets, as well as through other information channels,” he said.
In addition, he revealed, Kembangan Utara Subdistrict, Kembangan District, West Jakarta, was selected as the first place to release wolbachia mosquitoes because it has dengue fever rate in 2023 with an incidence rate of 54.1 per 100,000 population.
“The population density in Kembangan District is very high, the residents are known to be friendly and like to work together, so in principle the residents here tolerate Aedes mosquitoes aegypti to be released by Wolbachia,” Uus said.
He said that the increase in dengue fever cases in West Jakarta in 2024 had occurred starting in February and reached a peak in April of 799 cases.
“In March to June 2024, the number of cases was above the highest value in the last five years. In addition, cases began to decline in July and in September there were 73 file a case,” he said.
