The Normandy region and the SNCF offer, from Friday and until Sunday, between one and three additional trains per day on each of the Caen-Paris, Deauville-Paris and Granville-Paris lines, in the Normandy-Paris direction. “It is a matter of public health. The users must travel in optimal sanitary conditions ”, assures Hervé Morin, the president of region.
The number of seats in each train will be reduced by half to respect social distancing. In addition, and the SNCF ensures that there will be no exemption, travelers must imperatively wear a mask, to board.
The big blur for subscribers
This last point worries user associations. “We are in improvisation. We are about to ban travelers without masks from boarding. But there are already many places here where it is difficult to have them. However, neither the region nor the SNCF guarantee us the means to obtain them. So expect a very complicated weekend! Not to mention the difficulties that subscribers who do not have a reservation and who will nevertheless have to find a place will also encounter, ”explains Pierre Forné, president of the Association of users of the Paris-Granville line.
This is the case of Alexis, 45, confined to Sotteville-lès-Rouen (Seine-Maritime), and who must return to Paris to find his job as an IT technician from Monday: “We can only approve the establishment of these additional trains. But that doesn’t solve everything. We have very little info… starting with timetables and transport conditions for subscribers! It is an absolute blur ”. Two questions remain unanswered on the eve of the start: will I have a place and can we really be left behind?
