The government wants to introduce December 6 as a trading Sunday – according to the published bill. The justification says that the decision is to contribute to reducing the number of customers during the holiday season.

On Wednesday, a draft law was published to amend the law on special solutions related to the prevention, prevention and combating of COVID-19, other infectious diseases and emergencies caused by them, and certain other laws.

“The proposed amendment to the Act of 10 January 2018 on the restriction of trade on Sundays and public holidays and on certain other days introduces an episodic solution consisting in the lifting of the trade ban referred to in Article 5 of this Act on Sunday, December 6, 2020. . in commercial establishments “- stated in the draft.

“The pre-holiday period, especially before Christmas, is a period when the number of customers making purchases is significant. In order to spread this process over time and thus reduce the number of customers shopping at the same time, it is reasonable to introduce an additional shopping Sunday on December 6, 2020. On the one hand, it will make it possible to maintain sanitary restrictions in connection with the epidemic, and on the other hand, it will have a positive impact on entrepreneurs, contributing to the improvement of their financial situation “- it was written in the justification.

This year’s trading Sundays will also be December 13 and 20.

Trade industry, incl. The Polish Organization of Trade and Distribution (POHiD) and the Polish Chamber of Commerce proposed in November this year for the restoration of commercial Sundays in December. It was explained that this would help spread customer traffic over seven days during this particular pre-holiday season.

No trade

The act on restricting trade on Sundays and public holidays entered into force on March 1, 2018.

The regulations provide for a catalog of 32 exemptions. The ban on non-trading Sundays does not apply, inter alia, in confectioneries, ice cream parlors, liquid fuel stations, flower shops, newspaper shops, and cafes.

For breaking the Sunday trading ban, there is a penalty of PLN 1,000 to PLN 100,000, and for persistent breach of the act – restriction of liberty.

Due to the spread of the epidemic and new restrictions, all retail outlets are required to wear protective masks, stores are required to provide customers with disposable gloves and hand disinfectants when shopping.
