Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

positive case Covid-19 nationally increased by 12,990 on Friday (18/6). Thus, the total number of positive Covid-19 cases in Indonesia has increased to 1,963,266 since it was first announced in early March 2020 by the President Joko Widodo.

According to data from the Ministry of Health, of the total positive cases, 1,779,127 of them have recovered. The number of recovered patients increased by 7,907 from the previous day.

Meanwhile, 54,043 of them died. Patients who died after being infected with the corona virus increased by 290 from yesterday.

The number of specimens examined today was 132,215 samples. Active cases of Covid-19 or patients being treated and isolated have now reached 130,096 people. Meanwhile, there are 111,635 suspected Covid-19 cases.

The day before, the last positive case of Covid-19 was at 12,000 in a day, on February 6, 2021. This additional 12,000 today is the highest in the last four months.

Recently, the data related to Covid-19 reported by the government has been questioned again. A number of members of professional organizations of doctors in Indonesia have urged the government to be transparent in presenting data, especially regarding the findings of cases of mutations in the corona virus.

Data transparency is considered necessary so that the public understands the mapping of the corona variant area so that they can be more vigilant. In addition, the local government can also determine the next anticipatory policy.

“The state must be transparent, every week a new Whole Genome Sequence (WGS) must be presented,” said General Chairperson of the Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI) Aman Bhakti Pulungan in an online event, Friday (18/6).

In addition, the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) suspects that there are more positive cases and deaths of residents exposed to Covid-19 in the field than reported by the central government. This is reflected in several cases of the number of Covid-19 funerals which are more than the daily data reported by the regional government.

Another party who doubts the government’s data is the Center for Indonesia’s Strategic Development Initiatives (CISDI). The agency said 29.91 percent of the population in Tanjung Priok District, North Jakarta, had been or were currently infected with Covid-19. That number is 12 times higher than the data reported by the government.

In order to suppress the spread of the corona virus, a number of regions have implemented regional quarantine policies or lockdowns. Some of them are Bandung and Yogyakarta. A number of state institutions, such as several commissions in the DPR and some of the Ministry of Social Affairs have also implemented a lockdown.

Until now, the central and regional governments are still trying to contain the corona virus pandemic. Starting from the implementation of restrictions on community activities, a national vaccination program to providing economic assistance to those affected.
