Addictions, mental health problems, unemployment; how does Alexander Ribak live?

Alexander Ribak, a Norwegian singer of Belarusian origin, became famous in Europe in 2009 after winning the Eurovision Song Contest. His song “Fairytale” gained huge popularity, and in Norway he became a “national hero”. How does Ribak live now?

Now Alexander Ribak is no longer so popular. In France and Germany, they know him practically not at all – Eurovision is not considered something significant and grandiose there, and music critics regularly give him extremely low marks.

But Ribak had enough work and livelihood, at least until the start of the pandemic. But health problems began to severely hamper creative work. For many years, the artist was addicted to sleeping pills and antidepressants, and in January 2020, he decided to start a new life by seeking help from doctors.

“In recent years, the pills I was addicted to have made me weak and scary. It has affected not only my brain but also my muscles, stomach and general condition. This addiction has damaged my relationships with people, but most importantly, it almost destroyed my desire to live, “the singer said on her social networks.

He spoke openly about the rehabilitation process on his Instagram account. The artist decided to share information to help those experiencing the same difficulties. Despite the pain, hallucinations, and panic attacks that accompanied him throughout his treatment, Ribak continued to release songs. One of them is “Give Me Rain”.

“For me personally, this song is about the horrors I experienced during rehabilitation. Headaches, hallucinations, cold sweats and nightmares were my ‘friends’ every day. All I want in situations like this is to lie down and laugh. After all, it’s just funny.” It ‘s all going according to plan, and I know it will go away, “said Alexander.

Addiction and treatment affected the artist’s privacy. For a long time he met a girl named Julia, whom Tinder met. However, the couple divorced in 2019. “I felt like I couldn’t be in such close contact with someone. It’s about physical pain when it hurts, I don’t want to communicate with people, and even more so with people I really like. I admire people who can fight for love and health, because I couldn’t, “Ribak said.

The winner of “Eurovision” does not intend to give up. Although the treatment is still going on, in the middle of May Alexander will go on the long-awaited concert tour.
