Added to the Long List of Suspects for the Deadly Fire at Tangerang Prison

Polda Metro Jaya has announced a new suspect in the deadly Tangerang Class I prison fire case. With increasing 3 new suspectsThe total number of suspects in the fire case is 6 people.

The new suspect was announced by the police on Wednesday (29/9). Of the 3 suspects, one of them is an inmate who inhabits Block C2 Class I prison in Tangerang.

So there are 6 people we have named suspects. Three in Article 359 of the Criminal Code and 3 in Article 188 in conjunction with Article 55 of the Criminal Code,” explained the Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Police Kombes Yusri Yunus at a press conference at the Metro Jaya Police, Jl Sudirman, Jakarta, Wednesday (29/9/202).

The three suspects are JNM (convicts), PBB (prison employees), and RS (PB’s superiors). One suspect prisoner with the initials JNM became a suspect because of his negligence in the fire. Meanwhile, the 3 suspects were previously charged with Article 359 of the Criminal Code regarding negligence which resulted in the death of another person.

Article 188 of the Criminal Code reads:

“Whoever by mistake (negligence) causes a fire, explosion or flood, is threatened with a maximum imprisonment of five years or a maximum imprisonment of one year or a maximum fine of four thousand and five hundred rupiahs, if because of this action there is a general danger to the goods. , if because of that action there is danger to the life of another person, or if because of that act causes death.”

Article 359 of the Criminal Code reads:

“Whoever for his fault (his forgetfulness) causes another to die, is liable to imprisonment for a maximum of five years or to imprisonment for a maximum of one year.”

The Role of 3 New Suspects

Yusri Yunus explained that the three suspects were JNM (convicts), PBB (prison employees), and RS (UN superiors). JNM inmates were also named as suspects due to their negligence in installing electrical installations in Tangerang prison.

“First, JNM is a fostered resident. He was negligent because he installed electrical or cable installations there. Because he is not an expert in his field,” said Yusri.

The UN suspect is an employee of the Tangerang prison.

“He is a prison employee who ordered JNM to install the electrical installation,” he said.
