A number of predictions say that the peak of the BA.4 and BA.5 subvariance of the COVID-19 wave will be reached in mid and late July 2022. During this period, the addition of daily cases could reach 18-20 thousand.

However, this figure is considered not to be achieved if testing is not carried out on a massive scale. For comparison, the last time the daily COVID-19 cases in Indonesia reached 20 thousand cases was in March 2022.

At that time, the number of testing was recorded at more than 200 thousand specimens per day. Meanwhile, currently, the number of testing in a few weeks is only around 80 thousand per day.

“This means that if we want to know how the actual COVID-19 situation is on the ground, our number of daily tests must be increased several times. Only with the right data can we formulate the best policies to protect the nation’s children,” said the professor at the Faculty of Medicine. University of Indonesia (FKUI) Prof. Tjandra Yoga Aditama.
