ADC Company’s ‘The Self-Pot’ Marks 32nd Anniversary of Teatro de la Reforma in Presentation Aimed at Childhood

With the presentation of ‘The self-pot‘, work of the ADC Companyhe Teatro de la Reforma celebrated its thirty-second anniversarythe afternoon of January 6.

The production, aimed at childhood and with the participation of José Carlos León -director of the venue- and Abraham Poncedirected by teacher Tania Hernández, marked the beginning of the celebration at the Veracruzano Institute of Culture space.

He received its authorities for its introduction, such as the deputy director of Arts and Heritage, Sergio Rosete Xotlanihua and the head of the Veracruz Center of the Arts ‘Hugo Argüelles’, Miguel Zamudio.

Regarding production, fuses contemporary dance with performancethe current head of the Reform Theaterauthor of the staging, which was part of the Our Artists PECDA 4.0 program.

“At the peaks of the Devil’s Backbone”, a Rolls Royce loses control. The consequence, a total loss. Now dilapidated and at the bottom of the ravine, he must make the most important decision of his life: whether or not to light the spark of his engine to find a new path,” León detailed about the work.

Which emerged from another project of his authorship, Project 85, artistic and therapeutic workshop for older adults.

“There were quite a few people gathered at the national level and ‘Don Carlitos’, an 85-year-old man who had a car accident“He lost complete mobility in his legs, he lost his wife, he has health problems.”

At first I didn’t want to talk, I didn’t feel like it.“I came to the sessions barefoot because I said there was no point in putting on shoes if I didn’t need them,” he said.

“We accompanied him with art and Joshua León Salgado, psychologist from Project 85, and at the end, when they were discharged, the man said: “Thank you because I realized that I wasn’t lost, I was just abandoned.“It was an anecdote that marked my heart,” he commented.

With this testimony and the eradication of the ‘pot cars’ in Xalapa, the graduate in Contemporary Dance from the Veracruzana University created the staging, starting from the metaphor that compares an abandoned car and a person with difficulties in their lives, but that both can be ‘repaired’.

The self-pot‘ is co-directed by Carlos León with Tania Hernández

The project was joined Tania Hernández, scenic creator who co-directed the work with León, who highlighted that although the inspiration for the story was an older adult, it is aimed at ‘childhoods’ since it considers childhood as a state, and adults can also identify.

“This car turns out to be a metaphor for our own body, our own humanity,” said the actress, who highlighted that the result of the production has been positive.

“For me, the main thing is connect with this stage we went throughwith which childhood lives in all of us and to speak to us from there, from that space where imagination, dreams, play remain alive, no matter how old you are, it is essential that the creations or their creative processes are connected with that, with the game, that sense of play that we all have.”

“Putting the show together was a fun and fluid process, and I think has had a good reception by children and their families,” added Hernández.
