‘Adani stole lakhs of crores of public money; Must Inquire’- Adani-Hindenburg Row | Congress Jaya Thakur Adani Group

New Delhi: The Congress approached the Supreme Court demanding an inquiry against the Adani Group on the report published by the US financial research firm Hindenburg. The petition was filed by Congress leader Jaya Thakur. The demand in the petition is that the agencies should be investigated under the supervision of the Supreme Court sitting judge regarding the embezzlement of lakhs of crores of public money by businessman Gautam Adani.

“The massive investment by LIC and SBI in Adani Group’s subsidiary share issue (FPO) should be investigated. The Adani Group raised a lot of money through hawala transactions by setting up paper companies in places like Mauritius, Singapore and the Caribbean Islands,” the petition alleges. This is the third petition to be filed in the Supreme Court on the Hindenburg-Adani issue.

The court yesterday expressed concern over the financial loss suffered by stock investors following the Adani Group controversies. Yesterday, the Center agreed to the Supreme Court’s proposal to form an expert committee for the protection of stock investors. However, concerns were also shared that regulatory agencies such as SEBI would require the supervision of the committee, which may affect the market. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that the government should be allowed to prescribe the area of activity of the committee and the name of the members should be given in a sealed cover.
