The stage was held in Bilbao, Spain, at a distance of 182 km, and Adam cut it at a time of 4:22:49 hours, 4 seconds ahead of his brother Simon and 12 seconds ahead of Slovenian Tadi Yogachar.
It is the first time that Yates, 30, has won one of the stages of the Tour de France, but he previously wore the yellow jersey over a period of four days in 2020.
