The 34-year-old defenseman has 73 points in 512 NHL games with the Columbus Blue Jackets, New York Rangers and Boston Bruins. He also had 11 points in 68 playoff games, in addition to helping the Bruins win the Stanley Cup in 2011.
McQuaid played his last game on March 28, 2019, a meeting he left due to a herniated disc in his neck.
“I’m more than lucky to have been able to play for so long and have been through all of these moments,” McQuaid said in an interview with CBC on Saturday. “When I look at my situation, I don’t tell myself that things have ended too quickly, poor me. Not at all. “
A second-round pick (55th) in the 2005 Draft by the Blue Jackets, McQuaid was traded to the Bruins in May 2007, and he played his first nine seasons in the NHL in Boston. He was traded to the Rangers in September 2018 and then to the Blue Jackets in February 2019.
