Adam Beyer is redefining the boundaries of techno with his current EP

The fact that the Swedish techno artist Adam Beyer likes to experiment with genre boundaries has been known since his last releases. The new EP also incorporates strong influences from other areas of music into the technoid sound of the Drumcode label boss.

Latin, Mambo, Afro… it’s best to decide for yourself how you would classify the dominant structures and vocals of the title track “Don’t Go” from Adam Beyer’s new EP. The track is somewhat reminiscent of “Sunchyme” by Dario G, the late UK artist’s trance anthem, but in techno. The main theme of “Don’t Go” consists of a “two-line Afro-chorus of mixed voices,” “a call-and-response pattern,” according to the release press release.

Anyone who thinks that Adam Beyer is now jumping on the Afro House bandwagon is wrong. Although “Don’t Go” is defined by strong Afro vibes, it is a lot removed from Afro House. The rhythm and the beat are completely different. Beyer succeeds in transferring the African spirit to techno and thereby redefining the boundaries of techno.

In contrast, track number two of the EP, “Tool Of Thought,” sounds more futuristic. Complex percussions alternate with “clacking beats”, “hissing hi-hats” and “metallic basses”. Adam Beyer’s new EP is one thing above all: once again innovative, just as you would expect from his drum code.

Adam Beyer has already played both tracks in his numerous sets throughout the summer. A summary of it:

Tracklist:

  1. Don’t Go
  2. Tool Of Thought

Adam Beyer’s EP “Don’t Go” was released on October 11, 2024 via his own label Drumcode.
