ADAC traffic jam forecast on May 29th, 2022: Autobahn chaos after the holiday! Nothing works HERE at the weekend

Motorists need strong nerves again. In its current traffic jam forecast, the ADAC warns of congested motorways throughout Germany on the days around Ascension Day. It could get tight HERE.

The 9-euro ticket is only valid from June 1, 2022, but the next public holiday is still in this month. Many citizens become Ascension of Christ on Thursday, May 26th, will probably forego an expensive bus or train journey and instead set off on a short vacation with family or friends by car. But the trip could cost a lot of nerves – and not just because of the currently high fuel prices.

Forecast from the ADAC: There is a risk of traffic jams on Ascension Day, especially in the metropolitan areas

Around the bridge day weekend, the ADAC expects numerous traffic jams. “The streets should be significantly fuller than on the Ascension Day weekends of the previous two years,” said the traffic club. Reason: Corona no longer restricts national travel. The ADAC expects the first peak of traffic jams on Wednesday afternoon from around 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. The return wave will then reach its peak on Sunday afternoon. Above all, the highways in the metropolitan areas are at risk of congestion. On Friday, however, the ADAC expects rather quiet traffic. In many federal states, there is no school on the day after Ascension Day.

Attention drivers! It could get tight on these highways at Ascension Day 2022

The ADAC sees the greatest risk of traffic jams on the long-distance roads to and from the coast in the metropolitan areas of Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne, Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Munich and on the following motorways:

  • A1 Cologne – Bremen – Hamburg – Lübeck
  • A2 Berlin – Hannover – Dortmund
  • A3 Cologne – Frankfurt – Würzburg – Nuremberg
  • A4 Kirchheimer Dreieck – Erfurt – Chemnitz – Dresden
  • A5 Hattenbacher Dreieck – Darmstadt – Karlsruhe
  • A6 Heilbronn – Nürnberg
  • A7 Hamburg – Hannover
  • A7 Würzburg – Füssen/Reutte
  • A7 Hamburg – Flensburg
  • A8 Stuttgart – Munich – Salzburg
  • A9 Munich – Nuremberg
  • A10 Berliner Ring
  • A61 Mönchengladbach – Koblenz – Ludwigshafen
  • A81 Stuttgart – Singen, A93 Inntal triangle – Kufstein
  • A95/B2 Munich – Garmisch-Partenkirchen
  • A99 ring road Munich.

Ascension Day is also a public holiday in Austria and Switzerland. If the weather is nice, this could lead to lively excursion traffic, the ADAC explained.

More than 1,000 construction sites cause traffic jams

In addition, there are currently 1,028 construction sites in Germany. In this context, too, motorists must reckon with traffic delays. According to the ADAC, the following motorway closures are currently active or announced:

  • A36 Vienenburg in the direction of Autobahnkreuz Bernburg between the Hoym junction and the Aschersleben-Zentrum junction until July 25th
  • A45 Gießen towards Hagen between Lüdenscheid and Lüdenscheid-Nord until further notice
  • until further notice
  • A59 Bonn towards Cologne between Köln-Rath and Dreieck Köln-Heumar from Wednesday, May 25, 8 p.m. to Monday, May 30, 5 a.m
  • A66 Wiesbaden – Frankfurt in both directions between Wiesbaden-Biebrich and Wiesbaden-Mainzer Straße until October 8th
  • A71 Schweinfurt in the direction of Erfurt, between the Meiningen-Nord junction and the Suhl/Zella-Mehlis junction until October 21

Detours are signposted, short-term changes and further blocking dates cannot be ruled out.
