As for Europe, statistics for the past year show that sales of cars with internal combustion engines are falling and demand for electric cars is growing rapidly. DW’s analysis shows that there is no longer such a huge gap between prices, but this is true for Germany and other Western European countries, but not for Bulgaria.
The ADAC Automobile Club estimates that in addition to the environmental aspect, electric cars also pay off financially. If you add up all the costs for a car – from the purchase price, the cost of operation and maintenance and the loss of value, the price difference between cars with internal combustion engines and electric cars shrinks even more.
Many models of electric cars are now even cheaper, according to the ADAC. However, this is because electric cars also enjoy tax benefits and are not taxed for the first ten years. The bonuses that Western countries give for the purchase of an electric car play a major role. Unfortunately, there are no such in our country yet and it is not known whether there will be any.
State financial premiums of up to € 9,000 for a clean electric vehicle and up to € 6,750 for a plug-in hybrid are included in these ADAC calculations. And yet there are still differences between conventional cars with internal combustion engines and those with electric motors. And in the absence of such a bonus, the difference is still huge.
Therefore, ADAC advises you to look very carefully at your chosen model and be sure to adjust your choice to how many kilometers you drive per year. You have to take into account the location and number of charging stations, because in our country they are not many, while in Germany, for example, their number exceeds 50,000.
However, in some places in Germany, the nearest charging station is 30 kilometers or more away. But that’s where many people live in single-family homes, where they have the opportunity to install a personal charger. In our country, electric cars are mostly wanted by people from big cities, where the lack of garages and fast charging stations has an impact.
But mostly it is about price, and in our country, given the financial condition of the average Bulgarian and the lack of any bonuses from the state for the purchase of an electric car, are factors that clearly show us that mass electrification of the fleet in Bulgaria it is currently impossible.
